本製品は、東洋エンタープライズが展開するミリタリーレーベル「Buzz Rickson's(バズリクソンズ)」と、同社のスカジャンレーベルで、後の「テーラー東洋」の前身にあたる「港商(KOSHO & CO.)」レーベルとのコラボレーションにより制作された別珍素材のスーベニアジャケットです。
「Buzz Rickson x KOSHO & CO.」のスペシャルエディションコレクションのアイテムとして、1950年代に米海軍空母レキシントン「U.S.S. LexingtonCVA-16」が横須賀へ寄港した際、米軍兵士の一人が現地の刺繍店でオーダーしたジャケットを再現した復刻モデルです。
構造は、表地と裏地からなる中綿を使用しない2層仕立てです。表地には綿100%の別珍を使用しており、短い毛羽を持つ起毛面によって、光の当たり方や毛並みの方向に応じて黒の濃淡や陰影が変化して見えます。裏地にはレーヨン100%のサテン生地を使用しています。サテンの滑らかな表面によってインナーとの摩擦を抑え、袖を通す際や着脱時の引っ掛かりを軽減する構造です。中綿を使用していないため、厚手の防寒ジャケットのような膨らみを持たず、春や秋を中心に着用しやすい仕様です。
フロントはKSHO刻印入りファスナーによる開閉式で、襟にはポイントカラーを採用しています。袖はセットインスリーブで、袖口はカフスリットと1個のボタンを組み合わせたシングルボタンカフス仕様です。左右の前身頃には、それぞれ斜め方向に開口する両玉縁ポケットを1つずつ配置しています。裾ウエストバンドの両脇部分にはゴムによるギャザーを設けており、この部分が腰まわりを適度に引き寄せることで、ブロゾン型ジャケットらしいシルエットを形成しています。
フロントと背面には複数の文字やモチーフを刺繍しています。着用時右胸には別体の刺繍パッチを1枚縫い付け、それ以外の柄や文字は別珍の表地へ直接刺繍されています。刺繍は、1950年代のヴィンテージスーベニアジャケットに見られる表情を意識し、現代の高密度で均一な刺繍とは異なる、やや粗さや不均一さを残した運針で仕上げられています。糸の浮き方や刺繍面のわずかな凹凸も含め、当時の刺繍が持つ立体的で素朴な表情を再現した仕様です。
空母レキシントンは1943年に就役し、太平洋戦争に参戦しました。終戦後にいったん退役しましたが、1950年代初頭に近代化改修を受けて攻撃空母として再就役し、1962年には対潜水艦戦を主な任務とする対潜空母へと任務を移しています。1956年6月から12月にかけては、第7艦隊の一隻として第一航空任務群(AIR TASK GROUP)と共に西太平洋に配備され、その航海の折に横須賀へ寄港しました。その際、乗組員の一人が現地の刺繍店で特別にオーダーした一点物のジャケットが、本製品のオリジナルとなったモデルです。本製品は、そのオリジナルジャケットを再現した復刻モデルです。フロントの刺繍からは、オーダー主である米兵マーティーがオレゴン州レドモンド地域の出身であることが読み取れます。背面にレイアウトされたトキイロコンドルとエイトボール、そしてスコップのモチーフは、その意味や由来は今となっては定かではありませんが、オーダーした本人のみが知るパーソナルで特徴的なデザインとして、この一着ならではの個性を強く物語っています。

This men's embroidered cotton velveteen souvenir jacket is made in Japan through a collaboration between Buzz Rickson's, Toyo Enterprises' military label specializing in vintage American military-inspired clothing, and KOSHO & CO., the historic predecessor of Toyo Enterprises associated with the souvenir-jacket tradition later carried forward by Tailor Toyo. Part of the "Buzz Rickson x KOSHO & CO. Special Edition" collection, BR15917 reproduces a one-off jacket originally commissioned by a U.S. serviceman at a Yokosuka embroidery shop during a 1956 port visit by U.S.S. Lexington CVA-16. The reproduction combines a 100% cotton velveteen outer shell, 100% rayon satin lining, period-oriented embroidery, and vintage-style zipper construction to recreate the distinctive character of the original jacket. The jacket has proportions based on 1950s souvenir jackets, with moderate room through the chest and body combined with a comparatively short body length. The torso is not sharply tapered and falls relatively straight from the chest toward the hem. Partially elasticized gathered sections are incorporated at both sides of the waistband, gently drawing the lower edge inward around the waist and creating the silhouette characteristic of period souvenir jackets.

[How We Measure the Actual Garment]
Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Lay the garment flat and measure straight across from side to side, approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms.
Length (Body Length): Measured from the base of the back collar, where the collar joins the body, straight down to the bottom of the hem.
Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): The first sleeve measurement is taken from the center back at the base of the collar seam, across the shoulder, and down to the end of the cuff.

Uninsulated Two-Layer Construction
The jacket is constructed from an outer shell and a separate lining without insulating fill between the two layers. This differs from padded or pile-interlined outerwear, where an additional insulating layer increases thickness and creates greater volume through the body and sleeves.
Because BR15917 contains no batting or other insulating fill, the jacket remains relatively light compared with a winter-weight insulated jacket. The cotton velveteen forms the outer shell, while the rayon satin provides a separate smooth interior layer. This uninsulated construction makes the jacket suitable primarily as a lighter outer layer for transitional seasons such as spring and fall.
100% Cotton Velveteen Outer Shell
The outer shell is made from 100% cotton velveteen. Velveteen is a woven cotton fabric with a short raised pile on the face. The direction of the pile affects the way the surface reflects light, so the depth and appearance of the black color can change depending on the viewing angle, lighting conditions, and the direction in which the nap lies.
Rather than appearing completely flat or uniformly reflective, the surface develops subtle differences in darkness, highlight, and shadow across folds and adjoining panels. This directional variation is an inherent characteristic of the raised pile and gives the velveteen a different visual character from the more continuous sheen of satin fabrics.
The Special Edition fabric is produced to reproduce the comparatively delicate character of period souvenir-jacket materials. The fabric is less densely constructed than many modern high-density woven fabrics and therefore requires particular care around friction, abrasion, snagging, and seam stress.
The surface color may also show some variation, and continued wear, friction, aging, and exposure to light may result in fading, color loss, or sun-related discoloration. These changes are characteristics of the vintage-oriented material specification used for this Special Edition and should be taken into consideration when wearing, handling, and storing the jacket.
100% Rayon Satin Lining
The body and sleeves are lined in 100% rayon satin. The satin has a smooth surface with a subtle, slightly matte sheen rather than a strong glossy appearance. Its restrained luster creates a softer visual contrast with the short raised pile of the cotton velveteen outer shell.
The smooth lining surface reduces friction between the jacket and garments worn underneath. This allows shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and similar layers to move more freely against the interior and reduces catching when the wearer inserts the arms into the sleeves or puts on and removes the jacket.
Because no insulating fill is placed between the velveteen shell and rayon lining, the lining follows the outer construction relatively closely rather than being separated from it by a thick padded layer.
KSHO-Marked Vintage-Style Metal Front Zipper
The front closure uses a metal zipper marked "KSHO." The zipper is part of the Special Edition construction and is reproduced to reflect the mechanical character of period fasteners rather than the smoother operation expected from many contemporary zipper systems.
To reproduce this specification, fastening machinery more than 50 years old was restored and returned to operation for the production of the zipper. The metal elements are reproduced using the same type of hand-bending process associated with the period construction, and the zipper tape is made from cotton.
Because this type of zipper reflects an earlier stage of fastening technology, the slider may encounter more resistance than a modern zipper. Operation may feel less uniformly smooth, particularly if the two sides are not completely aligned. The slider should therefore be moved carefully without forcing it when resistance is encountered.
Velveteen Point Collar
The neckline is finished with a conventional point collar rather than the rib-knit collar commonly seen on many other souvenir-jacket patterns. The collar forms two defined points at the front and is constructed from the same cotton velveteen used for the outer shell.
This construction gives the upper front a clearly defined collar line whether the zipper is worn open or closed and visually distinguishes BR15917 from souvenir jackets finished with a rib-knit collar.
Set-In Sleeve Construction
The jacket uses set-in sleeves. Each sleeve is joined to the body along a defined armhole seam at the shoulder rather than using raglan or dropped-shoulder construction.
This creates a clear structural division between the body and sleeves and establishes the shoulder width, body width, and sleeve length as separate pattern dimensions.
Single-Button Cotton Velveteen Cuffs with Cuff Slits
The sleeve ends are finished with cuffs made from the same cotton velveteen as the outer shell, each using a single-button closure. A cuff slit is incorporated into each sleeve opening so the circumference can expand when the button is released.
Opening the cuff increases the available width at the wrist and makes it easier to pass the hand through the sleeve. When fastened, the single-button closure reduces the opening and maintains the defined shape of the velveteen cuff. This differs from the stretch and recovery provided by a rib-knit cuff.
Angled Double-Welt Front Pockets
One angled double-welt pocket is positioned on each side of the front body. Each pocket opening is formed between two narrow welt sections rather than using an exterior flap or a separately applied patch-pocket body.
The double-welt construction keeps the opening comparatively flat against the surface of the jacket while reinforcing both edges of the pocket entrance. The openings are positioned on an angle so the wearer can approach them naturally from the sides with the arms lowered.
Partially Elasticized Waistband with Gathered Side Sections
The lower waistband is made from the same outer material rather than being replaced by a full rib-knit waistband. Elastic is incorporated into sections at both sides of the waistband, creating localized gathering in the velveteen fabric.
These elasticized sections gently reduce the circumference at the lower edge of the jacket and draw the garment inward around the waist. Because the gathering is concentrated at the sides rather than distributed continuously around the entire waistband, the center front and center back remain comparatively clean while the side sections provide the shaping effect characteristic of period souvenir jackets.
Direct Rayon Embroidery and Separate Chest Patch
The jacket carries multiple embroidered inscriptions and graphic motifs across the front and back. With the exception of the separate embroidered patch positioned on the wearer's right chest, the remaining motifs and lettering are embroidered directly into the cotton velveteen outer shell.
The embroidery is intentionally executed differently from modern high-density machine embroidery. Rather than producing a completely flat, tightly packed, and visually uniform surface, the stitch work retains slight irregularity in spacing, direction, thread height, and surface relief in order to reproduce the appearance associated with 1950s souvenir-jacket embroidery.
Individual threads may therefore sit slightly above the surface of the velveteen, and small differences in the height or contour of the embroidered areas may be visible. These characteristics contribute to the dimensional and comparatively simple surface character of period-style embroidery.
The lower stitch density also makes the embroidery more susceptible to snagging and thread pulls than tightly packed modern embroidery. Contact with bag hardware, hook-and-loop fasteners, jewelry, rough surfaces, or other objects capable of catching exposed threads should therefore be avoided where possible.
Special Edition Material and Construction Characteristics
BR15917 reproduces material, sewing, embroidery, and zipper characteristics associated with the original type of garment rather than modifying every component to meet the construction standards of conventional modern apparel.
The velveteen is comparatively delicate and can be affected by friction and seam slippage. Its surface may develop color loss, uneven fading, or discoloration through wear and exposure to light. The embroidery uses a comparatively open stitch construction and therefore requires care around snagging. The reproduced zipper may also operate with more mechanical resistance than a conventional modern zipper.
These characteristics should be understood as part of the Special Edition construction and should be considered when wearing, handling, cleaning, and storing the garment.
Buzz Rickson's x KOSHO & CO. Special Edition Background
Buzz Rickson's is the military label operated by Toyo Enterprises and focuses on garments derived from vintage American military clothing. KOSHO & CO. represents the historical souvenir-jacket lineage associated with the later Tailor Toyo label.
BR15917 was produced as part of the "Buzz Rickson x KOSHO & CO. Special Edition" collection. The collaboration brings together the military-oriented background of Buzz Rickson's and the souvenir-jacket lineage represented by KOSHO & CO. in a reproduction based on a documented personal jacket rather than a generalized decorative sukajan design.
U.S.S. Lexington CVA-16 and the Original Jacket
U.S.S. Lexington entered service in 1943 and participated in operations in the Pacific during World War II. After being decommissioned following the war, the carrier underwent modernization in the early 1950s and returned to service as an attack aircraft carrier. In 1962, its primary role was changed to anti-submarine warfare operations.
From June through December 1956, Lexington was deployed to the Western Pacific as part of the U.S. Seventh Fleet together with the First Air Task Group. During that cruise, the ship called at Yokosuka.
During the Yokosuka port visit, one of the servicemen associated with the ship commissioned a one-off jacket from a local embroidery shop. That original garment became the design source for BR15917, and the present model reproduces the individual embroidery layout and construction concept of that jacket.
The front embroidery indicates that the original owner, a serviceman named Marty, had a connection with the Redmond area of Oregon. The back design combines a pink-toned condor, an eight ball, and a shovel. The specific meaning or origin of this unusual combination is no longer known, but the arrangement reflects the personal nature of the original commission rather than a standardized souvenir-jacket graphic.

本製品は、東洋エンタープライズが展開するミリタリーレーベル「Buzz Rickson's(バズリクソンズ)」と、同社のスカジャンレーベルで、後の「テーラー東洋」の前身にあたる「港商(KOSHO & CO.)」レーベルとのコラボレーションにより制作された別珍素材のスーベニアジャケットです。
「Buzz Rickson x KOSHO & CO.」のスペシャルエディションコレクションのアイテムとして、1950年代に米海軍空母レキシントン「U.S.S. LexingtonCVA-16」が横須賀へ寄港した際、米軍兵士の一人が現地の刺繍店でオーダーしたジャケットを再現した復刻モデルです。
構造は、表地と裏地からなる中綿を使用しない2層仕立てです。表地には綿100%の別珍を使用しており、短い毛羽を持つ起毛面によって、光の当たり方や毛並みの方向に応じて黒の濃淡や陰影が変化して見えます。裏地にはレーヨン100%のサテン生地を使用しています。サテンの滑らかな表面によってインナーとの摩擦を抑え、袖を通す際や着脱時の引っ掛かりを軽減する構造です。中綿を使用していないため、厚手の防寒ジャケットのような膨らみを持たず、春や秋を中心に着用しやすい仕様です。
フロントはKSHO刻印入りファスナーによる開閉式で、襟にはポイントカラーを採用しています。袖はセットインスリーブで、袖口はカフスリットと1個のボタンを組み合わせたシングルボタンカフス仕様です。左右の前身頃には、それぞれ斜め方向に開口する両玉縁ポケットを1つずつ配置しています。裾ウエストバンドの両脇部分にはゴムによるギャザーを設けており、この部分が腰まわりを適度に引き寄せることで、ブロゾン型ジャケットらしいシルエットを形成しています。
フロントと背面には複数の文字やモチーフを刺繍しています。着用時右胸には別体の刺繍パッチを1枚縫い付け、それ以外の柄や文字は別珍の表地へ直接刺繍されています。刺繍は、1950年代のヴィンテージスーベニアジャケットに見られる表情を意識し、現代の高密度で均一な刺繍とは異なる、やや粗さや不均一さを残した運針で仕上げられています。糸の浮き方や刺繍面のわずかな凹凸も含め、当時の刺繍が持つ立体的で素朴な表情を再現した仕様です。
空母レキシントンは1943年に就役し、太平洋戦争に参戦しました。終戦後にいったん退役しましたが、1950年代初頭に近代化改修を受けて攻撃空母として再就役し、1962年には対潜水艦戦を主な任務とする対潜空母へと任務を移しています。1956年6月から12月にかけては、第7艦隊の一隻として第一航空任務群(AIR TASK GROUP)と共に西太平洋に配備され、その航海の折に横須賀へ寄港しました。その際、乗組員の一人が現地の刺繍店で特別にオーダーした一点物のジャケットが、本製品のオリジナルとなったモデルです。本製品は、そのオリジナルジャケットを再現した復刻モデルです。フロントの刺繍からは、オーダー主である米兵マーティーがオレゴン州レドモンド地域の出身であることが読み取れます。背面にレイアウトされたトキイロコンドルとエイトボール、そしてスコップのモチーフは、その意味や由来は今となっては定かではありませんが、オーダーした本人のみが知るパーソナルで特徴的なデザインとして、この一着ならではの個性を強く物語っています。

This men's embroidered cotton velveteen souvenir jacket is made in Japan through a collaboration between Buzz Rickson's, Toyo Enterprises' military label specializing in vintage American military-inspired clothing, and KOSHO & CO., the historic predecessor of Toyo Enterprises associated with the souvenir-jacket tradition later carried forward by Tailor Toyo. Part of the "Buzz Rickson x KOSHO & CO. Special Edition" collection, BR15917 reproduces a one-off jacket originally commissioned by a U.S. serviceman at a Yokosuka embroidery shop during a 1956 port visit by U.S.S. Lexington CVA-16. The reproduction combines a 100% cotton velveteen outer shell, 100% rayon satin lining, period-oriented embroidery, and vintage-style zipper construction to recreate the distinctive character of the original jacket. The jacket has proportions based on 1950s souvenir jackets, with moderate room through the chest and body combined with a comparatively short body length. The torso is not sharply tapered and falls relatively straight from the chest toward the hem. Partially elasticized gathered sections are incorporated at both sides of the waistband, gently drawing the lower edge inward around the waist and creating the silhouette characteristic of period souvenir jackets.
The jacket uses set-in sleeves rather than dropped shoulders or raglan sleeves. It is not designed as an intentionally oversized garment. [How We Measure the Actual Garment]
Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Lay the garment flat and measure straight across from side to side, approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms.
Length (Body Length): Measured from the base of the back collar, where the collar joins the body, straight down to the bottom of the hem.
Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): The first sleeve measurement is taken from the center back at the base of the collar seam, across the shoulder, and down to the end of the cuff.
Sleeve in Parentheses (Sleeve Length from Shoulder Seam): The sleeve measurement shown in parentheses is taken from the top of the shoulder seam straight down to the end of the cuff.

Uninsulated Two-Layer Construction
The jacket is constructed from an outer shell and a separate lining without insulating fill between the two layers. This differs from padded or pile-interlined outerwear, where an additional insulating layer increases thickness and creates greater volume through the body and sleeves.
Because BR15917 contains no batting or other insulating fill, the jacket remains relatively light compared with a winter-weight insulated jacket. The cotton velveteen forms the outer shell, while the rayon satin provides a separate smooth interior layer. This uninsulated construction makes the jacket suitable primarily as a lighter outer layer for transitional seasons such as spring and fall.
100% Cotton Velveteen Outer Shell
The outer shell is made from 100% cotton velveteen. Velveteen is a woven cotton fabric with a short raised pile on the face. The direction of the pile affects the way the surface reflects light, so the depth and appearance of the black color can change depending on the viewing angle, lighting conditions, and the direction in which the nap lies.
Rather than appearing completely flat or uniformly reflective, the surface develops subtle differences in darkness, highlight, and shadow across folds and adjoining panels. This directional variation is an inherent characteristic of the raised pile and gives the velveteen a different visual character from the more continuous sheen of satin fabrics.
The Special Edition fabric is produced to reproduce the comparatively delicate character of period souvenir-jacket materials. The fabric is less densely constructed than many modern high-density woven fabrics and therefore requires particular care around friction, abrasion, snagging, and seam stress.
The surface color may also show some variation, and continued wear, friction, aging, and exposure to light may result in fading, color loss, or sun-related discoloration. These changes are characteristics of the vintage-oriented material specification used for this Special Edition and should be taken into consideration when wearing, handling, and storing the jacket.
100% Rayon Satin Lining
The body and sleeves are lined in 100% rayon satin. The satin has a smooth surface with a subtle, slightly matte sheen rather than a strong glossy appearance. Its restrained luster creates a softer visual contrast with the short raised pile of the cotton velveteen outer shell.
The smooth lining surface reduces friction between the jacket and garments worn underneath. This allows shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and similar layers to move more freely against the interior and reduces catching when the wearer inserts the arms into the sleeves or puts on and removes the jacket.
Because no insulating fill is placed between the velveteen shell and rayon lining, the lining follows the outer construction relatively closely rather than being separated from it by a thick padded layer.
KSHO-Marked Vintage-Style Metal Front Zipper
The front closure uses a metal zipper marked "KSHO." The zipper is part of the Special Edition construction and is reproduced to reflect the mechanical character of period fasteners rather than the smoother operation expected from many contemporary zipper systems.
To reproduce this specification, fastening machinery more than 50 years old was restored and returned to operation for the production of the zipper. The metal elements are reproduced using the same type of hand-bending process associated with the period construction, and the zipper tape is made from cotton.
Because this type of zipper reflects an earlier stage of fastening technology, the slider may encounter more resistance than a modern zipper. Operation may feel less uniformly smooth, particularly if the two sides are not completely aligned. The slider should therefore be moved carefully without forcing it when resistance is encountered.
Velveteen Point Collar
The neckline is finished with a conventional point collar rather than the rib-knit collar commonly seen on many other souvenir-jacket patterns. The collar forms two defined points at the front and is constructed from the same cotton velveteen used for the outer shell.
This construction gives the upper front a clearly defined collar line whether the zipper is worn open or closed and visually distinguishes BR15917 from souvenir jackets finished with a rib-knit collar.
Set-In Sleeve Construction
The jacket uses set-in sleeves. Each sleeve is joined to the body along a defined armhole seam at the shoulder rather than using raglan or dropped-shoulder construction.
This creates a clear structural division between the body and sleeves and establishes the shoulder width, body width, and sleeve length as separate pattern dimensions.
Single-Button Cotton Velveteen Cuffs with Cuff Slits
The sleeve ends are finished with cuffs made from the same cotton velveteen as the outer shell, each using a single-button closure. A cuff slit is incorporated into each sleeve opening so the circumference can expand when the button is released.
Opening the cuff increases the available width at the wrist and makes it easier to pass the hand through the sleeve. When fastened, the single-button closure reduces the opening and maintains the defined shape of the velveteen cuff. This differs from the stretch and recovery provided by a rib-knit cuff.
Angled Double-Welt Front Pockets
One angled double-welt pocket is positioned on each side of the front body. Each pocket opening is formed between two narrow welt sections rather than using an exterior flap or a separately applied patch-pocket body.
The double-welt construction keeps the opening comparatively flat against the surface of the jacket while reinforcing both edges of the pocket entrance. The openings are positioned on an angle so the wearer can approach them naturally from the sides with the arms lowered.
Partially Elasticized Waistband with Gathered Side Sections
The lower waistband is made from the same outer material rather than being replaced by a full rib-knit waistband. Elastic is incorporated into sections at both sides of the waistband, creating localized gathering in the velveteen fabric.
These elasticized sections gently reduce the circumference at the lower edge of the jacket and draw the garment inward around the waist. Because the gathering is concentrated at the sides rather than distributed continuously around the entire waistband, the center front and center back remain comparatively clean while the side sections provide the shaping effect characteristic of period souvenir jackets.
Direct Rayon Embroidery and Separate Chest Patch
The jacket carries multiple embroidered inscriptions and graphic motifs across the front and back. With the exception of the separate embroidered patch positioned on the wearer's right chest, the remaining motifs and lettering are embroidered directly into the cotton velveteen outer shell.
The embroidery is intentionally executed differently from modern high-density machine embroidery. Rather than producing a completely flat, tightly packed, and visually uniform surface, the stitch work retains slight irregularity in spacing, direction, thread height, and surface relief in order to reproduce the appearance associated with 1950s souvenir-jacket embroidery.
Individual threads may therefore sit slightly above the surface of the velveteen, and small differences in the height or contour of the embroidered areas may be visible. These characteristics contribute to the dimensional and comparatively simple surface character of period-style embroidery.
The lower stitch density also makes the embroidery more susceptible to snagging and thread pulls than tightly packed modern embroidery. Contact with bag hardware, hook-and-loop fasteners, jewelry, rough surfaces, or other objects capable of catching exposed threads should therefore be avoided where possible.
Special Edition Material and Construction Characteristics
BR15917 reproduces material, sewing, embroidery, and zipper characteristics associated with the original type of garment rather than modifying every component to meet the construction standards of conventional modern apparel.
The velveteen is comparatively delicate and can be affected by friction and seam slippage. Its surface may develop color loss, uneven fading, or discoloration through wear and exposure to light. The embroidery uses a comparatively open stitch construction and therefore requires care around snagging. The reproduced zipper may also operate with more mechanical resistance than a conventional modern zipper.
These characteristics should be understood as part of the Special Edition construction and should be considered when wearing, handling, cleaning, and storing the garment.
Buzz Rickson's x KOSHO & CO. Special Edition Background
Buzz Rickson's is the military label operated by Toyo Enterprises and focuses on garments derived from vintage American military clothing. KOSHO & CO. represents the historical souvenir-jacket lineage associated with the later Tailor Toyo label.
BR15917 was produced as part of the "Buzz Rickson x KOSHO & CO. Special Edition" collection. The collaboration brings together the military-oriented background of Buzz Rickson's and the souvenir-jacket lineage represented by KOSHO & CO. in a reproduction based on a documented personal jacket rather than a generalized decorative sukajan design.
U.S.S. Lexington CVA-16 and the Original Jacket
U.S.S. Lexington entered service in 1943 and participated in operations in the Pacific during World War II. After being decommissioned following the war, the carrier underwent modernization in the early 1950s and returned to service as an attack aircraft carrier. In 1962, its primary role was changed to anti-submarine warfare operations.
From June through December 1956, Lexington was deployed to the Western Pacific as part of the U.S. Seventh Fleet together with the First Air Task Group. During that cruise, the ship called at Yokosuka.
During the Yokosuka port visit, one of the servicemen associated with the ship commissioned a one-off jacket from a local embroidery shop. That original garment became the design source for BR15917, and the present model reproduces the individual embroidery layout and construction concept of that jacket.
The front embroidery indicates that the original owner, a serviceman named Marty, had a connection with the Redmond area of Oregon. The back design combines a pink-toned condor, an eight ball, and a shovel. The specific meaning or origin of this unusual combination is no longer known, but the arrangement reflects the personal nature of the original commission rather than a standardized souvenir-jacket graphic.
