TOYS McCOY Men's Steve McQueen-Inspired Extra Heavyweight Raglan Pullover Hoodie, 14.8 oz Cotton Brushed-Back Fleece Hooded Sweatshirt, Tubular Body, Made in Japan TMC2542

TOYS McCOY

See available colors here

This men's pullover hooded sweatshirt is made in Japan by TOYS McCOY and is inspired by the pullover hoodie worn by Steve McQueen in an off-duty photograph. Reinterpreted as a tribute to McQueen, it is made from 14.8 oz extra-heavyweight 100% cotton brushed-back sweatshirt fabric and incorporates a tubular side-seam-free body, raglan sleeves, a double-layer hood, a front kangaroo pocket, and extended rib-knit cuffs and waistband. Major joining areas, including the hood, shoulders, armholes, sleeves, cuffs, and waistband, are reinforced with parallel two-needle stitching. Together, these details create a substantial, classic athletic-sweatshirt character with a clean, understated appearance, while the relatively short body length and balanced regular fit make it easy to wear either on its own or layered under a jacket or coat.

Size and Fit Guide:

Gender: Men.

This hoodie has a balanced regular fit that is neither tight nor loose. The body is not cut excessively slim, nor does it have the exaggerated volume of an intentionally oversized silhouette. Instead, it provides moderate room through the body while keeping the overall length relatively short, creating a classic, compact shape. The raglan sleeve construction eliminates conventional shoulder seams, with the sleeves extending diagonally from the neckline to the underarms so they conform naturally around the shoulders. A relatively deep rib-knit waistband gently draws in the lower body around the waist, allowing the sweatshirt fabric to blouse slightly above the ribbing and create the softly rounded silhouette characteristic of classic sweat hoodies. The cuffs also use extended rib knit, which fits comfortably around the wrists and keeps the sleeve ends neatly in place. This balanced construction makes the hoodie easy to wear as a standalone sweatshirt while also allowing it to layer comfortably under jackets and coats.

Because fit may vary depending on body type and personal preference, please use the actual garment measurements below as your primary reference. For the most accurate comparison, we recommend measuring a similar hooded sweatshirt that fits you well. All measurements are taken by hand with a measuring tape, so slight variations may occur between individual garments and depending on the measuring method.

Our model wears Tagged Size M. He is 175 cm / approximately 5'9" tall, weighs 59 kg / approximately 130 lbs, and has a 91 cm / approximately 36" chest. For reference, he normally wears a US/EU size S/36.

The following measurements show the garment itself, not your body measurements.
Please compare them with a similar hoodie from your wardrobe to get a better sense of the fit.

[How We Measure the Actual Garment]

Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Lay the garment flat and measure straight across from side to side, approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms.

Length (Body Length): Measured from the base of the back collar, where the collar joins the body, straight down to the bottom of the hem.

Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): Measured from the center back at the base of the collar to the end of the cuff.

Shoulder Width: Not measured. Because this hoodie uses raglan sleeves without conventional shoulder seams, a standard shoulder-width measurement cannot be taken. Please use the width, length, and center-back sleeve measurements as the primary references when comparing sizes.

Made in Japan.
Brand new with tags, in unused condition.
- All measurements are taken by hand with the garment laid flat, using a measuring tape.

1958 Steve McQueen Off-Screen Design Source
In 1958, Steve McQueen was photographed relaxing at his Laurel Canyon home, where he lived with his wife, Neile Adams. In the photograph, he wore a plain pullover sweatshirt hoodie with white jeans, creating a simple off-screen combination distinct from the costumes associated with his film roles.

This TOYS McCOY model takes that private moment and McQueen's understated pullover hoodie as its design source. Rather than relying on printed graphics or conspicuous decoration, the design is defined by the structure of the sweatshirt itself, including the extra-heavyweight cotton fabric, tubular body, raglan sleeves, double-layer hood, extended rib-knit components, kangaroo pocket, and visible double-needle stitching.

These elements reinterpret the atmosphere of McQueen's off-screen sweatshirt through TOYS McCOY's approach to vintage-inspired construction, producing a current pullover hoodie based on the proportions and functional details of classic American sweatwear.

14.8-Ounce Extra-Heavyweight 100% Cotton Sweatshirt Fabric
The sweatshirt is made from 14.8-ounce extra-heavyweight fabric knitted from 100% cotton. The material has substantial thickness, physical weight, and body, giving the garment a markedly heavier and more structured character than a lightweight or medium-weight sweatshirt.

The outer surface retains the rugged character of the yarns, with clearly visible vertical columns of knitted stitches. These vertically aligned columns, technically referred to as wales, are formed by successive knitted loops running along the length of the fabric. The wales remain visible across the surface and give the fabric an identifiable knitted structure rather than the flatter appearance of a woven textile.

The yarns and knitted loops also produce subtle natural variations in height, spacing, and surface texture. The fabric therefore does not appear completely smooth or mechanically uniform. Its slight irregularity and restrained surface variation create the straightforward, rugged appearance associated with traditional American sweatshirt fabrics.

The fabric has a firm body and a distinctly dry hand rather than an exceptionally soft, fluid, or loosely draped feel. Its substantial mass can also be felt when the garment is lifted or held in the hand. Together, the dry texture, firm resilience, visible knitted structure, and physical weight give the sweatshirt the substantial character expected from an extra-heavyweight fabric.

Brushed-Back Interior
The reverse side of the sweatshirt fabric is brushed to raise the cotton fibers and form a soft, finely napped interior surface. This differs from an unbrushed loopback sweatshirt fabric, where the looped yarn structure remains visibly exposed on the reverse side.

During brushing, fibers are lifted from the reverse surface without changing the fundamental knitted construction of the fabric. The resulting nap produces a softer interior texture while adding visible and tactile volume to the already substantial 14.8-ounce material.

Small spaces form among the raised fibers, allowing the brushed layer to hold pockets of air. When combined with the thickness and density of the extra-heavyweight sweatshirt fabric, this structure helps retain warmth generated by the body.

Tubular Side-Seam-Free Body
The torso is knitted as a continuous tube on a circular knitting machine, creating what is commonly referred to as a tubular body. Unlike conventional cut-and-sewn construction, the body is not assembled from separate front and back panels joined along the left and right sides.

Because the torso forms one continuous knitted section, there are no vertical side seams along either side of the body. The corresponding seam allowances, folded edges, and overlapping layers of fabric that would normally occur at these locations are also eliminated.

Removing these side seams helps prevent localized thickness, hardness, and raised ridges from forming along the sides of the torso. This is particularly relevant with an extra-heavyweight fabric, where conventional stacked seam allowances could otherwise produce noticeable bulk. The uninterrupted tubular construction also gives the sweatshirt a clean side profile without visible vertical seam lines.

Tubular body construction is a traditional method found on vintage American T-shirts and sweatshirts. On this model, it forms an integral part of the garment's classic athletic-wear construction rather than serving as an applied decorative feature.

Unwashed Finish and Shrinkage Characteristics
The completed sweatshirt is supplied in an unwashed condition and has not undergone a final washing treatment during production. In its new state, the cotton fibers and knitted loops have not yet contracted and settled through exposure to water and drying. As a result, the spaces between the knitted loops may initially appear slightly more open.

During laundering, the cotton fibers absorb water and the knitted structure contracts naturally. As the garment dries, the loops settle closer together and the spacing between them becomes slightly tighter. This process can give the fabric a denser, more compact appearance and a firmer, more cohesive hand than it has in its original unwashed condition.

When the sweatshirt is gently hand washed in cold water, reshaped, and allowed to dry naturally in the shade, the resulting shrinkage tends to remain comparatively slight. Dimensional change is more likely to appear in the vertical direction, particularly in the body length, while the change across the body width tends to be smaller.

The exact amount and direction of shrinkage cannot be guaranteed. Results may vary according to the individual garment, water temperature, washing duration, mechanical agitation, spin intensity, reshaping after washing, and drying conditions.

Warm or hot water and tumble drying can cause the cotton fibers and knitted structure to contract more extensively. These methods may produce greater and less predictable dimensional changes and should therefore be avoided.

Raglan Sleeve Construction
The sweatshirt uses raglan sleeves. Diagonal seams extend from the area near the neckline toward the underarms, joining each sleeve directly to the body.

This differs from set-in sleeve construction, where a shaped sleeve cap is attached to an armhole at the outer end of a defined shoulder seam. The raglan configuration eliminates a conventional shoulder seam positioned at a fixed shoulder point and creates a continuous transition from the neckline across the shoulder and into the upper arm.

Because the shoulder shape is not divided by a fixed horizontal shoulder seam, the sleeve and upper-body area can settle more naturally along the individual contours of the wearer's shoulders.

Double-Layer Hood Made from Matching Sweatshirt Fabric
The hood is constructed from two layers of the same sweatshirt fabric used for the body rather than as a single-layer component. Using the extra-heavyweight fabric on both the exterior and interior gives the hood substantial thickness, physical weight, and volume.

The double-layer structure supports the three-dimensional shape of the hood and helps prevent it from collapsing completely. When the hood is not worn over the head and rests against the upper back, it retains a fuller and more clearly defined outline than a lightweight single-layer hood.

Overlapping Hood Front with Buttonhole-Style Drawcord Openings
The front edges of the hood are not simply aligned edge to edge. Instead, one side overlaps the other at the front, creating a layered construction where the two sides meet near the neckline.

A pair of buttonhole-style openings is worked into the front of the hood to provide exit points for the drawcord. A flat drawcord passes through the hood channel and emerges through these two openings, allowing the circumference of the hood opening to be adjusted.

Because the hood front uses an overlapping construction, the two drawcord exit points may appear slightly asymmetrical when the garment is worn or viewed from the front. This visual difference results from the layered position of the hood edges and is a characteristic of the construction rather than a requirement for the openings to appear perfectly symmetrical.

Kangaroo Handwarmer Pocket
A kangaroo pocket made from the same sweatshirt fabric as the body is attached to the lower front. The pocket is constructed as a separate fabric panel laid over and sewn onto the exterior surface of the sweatshirt.

Openings on the left and right lead into one continuous interior compartment. Because the two sides are internally connected rather than divided into separate pockets, either hand can pass into the same central space from either opening.

The pocket is configured primarily as a handwarmer rather than as secure storage for small objects. Its large side openings provide easy access for both hands, but the continuous interior does not prevent stored items from moving toward and falling through either opening. Small valuables should therefore not be considered securely contained within the pocket.

Extended Double-Layer Rib-Knit Sleeve Cuffs
Each sleeve is finished with a separate rib-knit cuff. The rib-knit component is folded back on itself to form a double-layer structure and is then sewn to the end of the sweatshirt sleeve.

The rib knit has greater elasticity than the main sweatshirt fabric. This allows the cuff to follow the wrist with moderate tension while accommodating normal movement of the hand and arm. Its elasticity also helps prevent the sleeve opening from spreading excessively during wear.

The cuffs are proportionally longer than those used on many standard sweatshirts and cover a broader area around the wrists. This extended construction reduces open space at the sleeve ends through which cold air can enter while creating the distinctive long-cuff proportions associated with vintage-inspired athletic sweatwear.

Extended Rib-Knit Waistband
The lower body is finished with a separate extended rib-knit waistband. Like the sleeve cuffs, the waistband has greater elasticity than the extra-heavyweight sweatshirt fabric used for the body.

The rib knit follows the waist area with moderate tension and helps the lower edge of the sweatshirt settle around the waist rather than hanging freely below it. As the lower body is drawn inward by the waistband, a small amount of the substantial sweatshirt fabric gathers naturally above the ribbing.

This relationship between the full-bodied sweatshirt fabric and the more elastic waistband creates the softly rounded, cohesive silhouette associated with classic sweatshirt construction. The extended vertical depth of the ribbing also gives the lower body the longer waistband proportions characteristic of vintage-inspired athletic sweatwear.

Double-Needle Stitching at Major Component Junctions
Double-needle stitching is used at major junctions throughout the sweatshirt, including the hood, raglan shoulder areas, armholes, sleeves, cuff attachments, and waistband attachment. Two parallel rows of stitching secure the joined components at these structural locations.

Using two rows of stitching broadens the secured area compared with a single stitched row. It also distributes tension across two parallel rows where the garment is repeatedly subjected to movement and pulling, helping stabilize the joined sections during normal wear.

The parallel rows remain visible on the exterior and make the functional seam construction part of the sweatshirt's appearance. Rather than serving as a separate decorative application, the visible stitching follows the actual component junctions and contributes to the straightforward sewing character associated with classic American sweatwear.

Decorative Label at the Front Left Hem
A decorative label is sewn onto the exterior of the front body near the left hem. Its localized placement creates a subtle visual focal point within the otherwise plain design, adding a restrained accent while preserving the clean overall appearance of the garment.

Care Instructions
Hand wash only. Do not machine wash.
Do not bleach.
Iron at a low temperature using a pressing cloth.
Do not dry clean.
Do not use a machine spin cycle. Drip dry in the shade.
Do not tumble dry.

Because this garment is made from unwashed 100% cotton sweatshirt fabric, washing allows the cotton fibers and knitted structure to contract naturally. When gently hand washed in cold water, reshaped, and dried naturally in the shade, dimensional change tends to remain comparatively limited and may be more noticeable in the body-length direction than across the body. The actual degree and direction of shrinkage can vary according to water temperature, handling, drying conditions, and individual garment characteristics. Machine washing, warm or hot water, machine spin extraction, and tumble drying may cause greater and less predictable shrinkage and should be avoided.

Always follow the care instructions attached to the actual product.
