ラベルには「JACKET, FLYING, MAN'S, INTERMEDIATE」「TYPE MA-1」「SPEC. MIL-J-8279A」「ORDER NO. AF 33(602)-8077」「ALBERT TURNER & CO., INC.」

ALBERT TURNER & CO., INC.

Product Description in English.

TOYS McCOY Men's MA-1 Flight Jacket, ALBERT TURNER MIL-J-8279A Reproduction, Nylon Twill Shell, Wool Pile Interlining, Made in Japan (TMJ2640, Sage)

TOYS McCOY

This men's Type MA-1 flight jacket is made in Japan by TOYS McCOY. The design reproduces a 1950s U.S. Air Force jacket manufactured by ALBERT TURNER & CO., INC. to the MIL-J-8279A specification, focusing on the early configuration with a square-topped internal wind flap. Its construction combines a gray-toned Sage nylon twill shell, a full nylon lining, wool pile interlining on a cotton base fabric, and wool rib-knit trim at the collar, cuffs, and waistband. A nylon oxygen-mask hose tab, snap-fastened ICS communication-cord loops, flapless waist pockets, a zippered sleeve utility pocket, and U.S. Air Force markings reproduce the equipment-related details and appearance of the early MA-1. The substantial interlining adds warmth and volume through the body and sleeves, while the short body length and rib-knit waistband create the rounded silhouette associated with this classic flight jacket. Together, these materials and structural details bring the character of the original military garment into a reproduction suited to contemporary casual wear.

Size and Fit Guide:

Gender: Men.

This jacket has a classic MA-1 fit, with room through the chest and body and a comparatively short body length. The generous body width is drawn in at the waist by the rib-knit waistband, creating a rounded upper-body silhouette with a defined lower edge. The insulating interlining between the shell and lining also gives the body and sleeves more thickness and volume than an L-2-series light-zone flight jacket without an insulating interlining.

The thickness of the interlining affects the space available inside the jacket, so it may fit differently from a thinner jacket with the same flat chest-width measurement. The thickness of the clothing worn underneath, your body type, and your preferred fit will also affect how it feels when worn. Before selecting a size, please measure a similar flight jacket that fits you well, preferably one with comparable thickness and construction, and compare its chest width, body length, center-back sleeve length, sleeve length from the shoulder seam, and shoulder width with the measurements below.

Our model wears Tagged Size M. He is 175 cm / approximately 5'9" tall, weighs 59 kg / approximately 130 lbs, and has a 91 cm / approximately 36" chest. For reference, he normally wears a US/EU size S/36.

The following measurements show the garment itself, not your body measurements. Width is the flat measurement across the garment and represents half of the garment's chest circumference, not the full circumference or the wearer's chest size.

[How We Measure the Actual Garment]

Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Lay the garment flat and measure straight across from side to side, approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms.

Length (Body Length): Measured from the base of the back collar, where the collar joins the body, straight down to the bottom edge of the rib-knit waistband. This measurement includes the waistband but does not include the height of the collar.

Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): The first sleeve measurement is taken from the center back at the base of the collar seam, across the shoulder, and down to the end of the cuff. This measurement includes the rib-knit cuff.

Sleeve in Parentheses (Sleeve Length from Shoulder Seam): The sleeve measurement shown in parentheses is taken from the top of the shoulder seam down to the end of the cuff. This measurement includes the rib-knit cuff.

Shoulder (Shoulder Width): Measured straight across the back from one shoulder seam to the other.

Made in Japan.
- Condition: Brand new, in unused condition.
- All measurements are taken by hand with the garment laid flat, using a measuring tape.
- Please note that slight variations in measurements may occur due to individual garment differences and the measuring method.
- Actual color may vary slightly from the photos due to lighting conditions and individual screen settings.

1950s ALBERT TURNER MIL-J-8279A Reproduction
This model reproduces an early Type MA-1 flight jacket made for the U.S. Air Force by ALBERT TURNER & CO., INC. under the MIL-J-8279A specification. The A specification was the first revision of the original MA-1 specification, and this reproduction specifically follows the configuration with a square upper end on the internal wind flap.

The reproduction brings together the gray-toned Sage Green shell, wool pile interlining, square-topped wind flap, nylon oxygen-mask hose tab, snap-fastened communication-cord loops, flapless waist pockets, left-sleeve utility pocket, and Air Force markings. These details identify the particular early configuration being reproduced and connect its appearance to the practical equipment requirements of the original jacket.

MA-1 Development and Specification Revisions
The Type MA-1 emerged in the 1950s from the development of the Type B-15 flight-jacket series and remained in use among U.S. military aviation personnel and ground crews through successive specification revisions. The original MIL-J-8279 specification was followed by MIL-J-8279A, MIL-J-8279B, MIL-J-8279C, MIL-J-8279D, MIL-J-8279E, MIL-J-8279F, and MIL-J-8279G, with the jacket's construction changing as flight conditions, equipment, and operational requirements evolved.

Differences between specifications include the shape of the internal wind flap, equipment tabs and cord loops, lining arrangements, pocket construction, and provisions for reversible wear. Jackets with a similar overall appearance can therefore differ in their exterior details, equipment attachment points, and internal construction according to their production period, specification, and contractor. This model reproduces the early arrangement with a square-topped wind flap and equipment-related tabs and loops.

The low rib-knit collar also reflects the relationship between flight clothing and aviation equipment. Modified examples of the B-15 series replaced the large mouton collar with a knitted collar to accommodate changing equipment. The MA-1 likewise uses a low knit collar that helps reduce interference around helmets and other gear.

High-Density 100% Nylon Twill Shell in Gray-Toned Sage Green
The shell is made from 100% nylon twill woven at a high density. The closely woven fabric has a smooth, compact surface and a substantial hand, combining noticeable thickness with the flexibility needed to bend and move with the garment.

The fabric develops a restrained sheen as the direction of the light and the viewing angle change. These shifting highlights and shadows give definition to the folds and rounded volume of the jacket without obscuring the underlying weave. The Sage Green color has a gray cast, giving the shell its muted, subdued appearance.

Full 100% Nylon Lining Through the Body and Sleeves
The jacket is fully lined with 100% nylon fabric through both the body and sleeves. This smooth inner surface sits between the wearer's clothing and the insulating interlining enclosed within the jacket.

The smooth nylon reduces friction against the layers worn underneath, helping the jacket slide on and off and limiting catching as the arms move. The lining therefore contributes to ease of wear while covering the insulation throughout the body and sleeves.

100% Wool Pile Interlining on a 100% Cotton Base Fabric
An insulating pile interlining is enclosed between the nylon shell and nylon lining. Its pile is made from 100% wool, while the supporting base fabric is 100% cotton. These percentages refer to the two components separately: the wool forms the raised pile, and the cotton forms the fabric that supports it.

The interlining extends through the body and sleeves. Air held within the wool pile contributes to an insulating layer between the outer shell and the smooth inner lining, helping the jacket retain warmth.

The physical depth of the pile also gives the garment thickness and volume. This internal structure supports the rounded shape of the body and sleeves, making the interlining part of both the jacket's thermal construction and its characteristic MA-1 silhouette.

Front Zipper with T.McCOY-Marked Slider and Leather Pull Tab
The front closes with a zipper fitted with a metal slider marked "T.McCOY" and a loop-shaped metal pull. A leather tab is attached to the metal pull, extending the area available to grip when opening or closing the jacket.

The leather provides a flexible handle that can be held between the fingers, making the pull easier to grasp and helping with operation of the front zipper. The metal slider, loop-shaped pull, and leather extension form distinct components of the closure.

Square-Topped Internal Wind Flap with Zigzag Stitching
A vertical wind flap, also called a storm flap, runs behind the front zipper on the wearer's right front panel. Positioned inside the closure, it provides a backing layer behind the zipper and helps reduce drafts entering through the front opening.

The upper end of the flap is square, reproducing the shape used in the early MA-1 configuration on which this jacket is based. This outline is a specific detail of the design source, alongside the equipment tabs and flapless waist pockets.

Zigzag stitching secures the interlining inside the flap. The stitching helps hold the insulating material in position and reduces its tendency to shift or gather within the flap, while also creating the visible zigzag pattern on its surface.

Flapless, Snap-Fastened Single-Welt Waist Pockets
The front has one waist pocket on each side, with the openings set at an angle. Each opening is finished with a single welt and can be secured with a snap fastener. There is no separate exterior flap covering the pocket entrance.

This arrangement preserves the flapless waist-pocket construction of the early MA-1 being reproduced. The angled openings form a clearly defined detail on the lower front, while the snaps allow the entrances to be fastened closed. The pocket bags are made from brushed double-face fabric, giving the pocket interiors a different texture from the smooth nylon shell and body lining.

Two Interior Pockets with Cotton Drill Pocket Bags
There is one interior pocket on each front panel. Both have vertically oriented openings that can be closed with snap fasteners, providing storage inside the jacket as well as at the exterior waist.

Cotton drill is used for the interior pocket bags. These bags form the storage compartments behind the pocket openings and are separate from the nylon lining that covers the body and sleeves. Their material also differs from the brushed double-face fabric used for the exterior waist-pocket bags.

Left-Sleeve Utility Pocket with TALON Zipper and Four Pen Slots
A zippered utility pocket is positioned on the left upper sleeve. Often called a cigarette pocket, this is a characteristic detail of U.S. military nylon flight jackets. The main compartment closes with a TALON zipper, whose metal pull is fitted with a leather tab to make it easier to grasp.

The outside of the pocket also incorporates four individual pen slots. These narrow compartments separate the pens from one another and from the main zippered storage area, combining two types of storage within the sleeve-pocket assembly.

U.S. Air Force Marking Printed on the Left Sleeve
Above the utility pocket, the left sleeve carries a U.S. Air Force wing-and-star emblem together with the wording "U.S. AIR FORCE." The design is printed directly onto the nylon shell, so the marking sits on the garment fabric rather than on a separately attached patch.

Nylon Oxygen-Mask Hose Tab at the Left Chest
A nylon oxygen-mask hose tab is attached vertically beside the front zipper on the wearer's left chest. Its color is similar to that of the shell, allowing the equipment detail to blend into the Sage Green front panel while remaining visible through its shape and placement.

On the original jacket, this tab provided a point for clipping an oxygen-mask hose in place. The reproduction retains the structure of this equipment attachment detail as part of its early MA-1 configuration.

Snap-Fastened ICS Communication-Cord Loops
The jacket has snap-fastened ICS communication-cord loops at both sides of the body. The snap closures allow each loop to be opened and fastened around a cord, reflecting the practical construction of the original equipment detail.

On the original design, these loops were used to retain wiring associated with headsets, microphones, and the aircraft's communication system. Their presence complements the oxygen-mask hose tab and reproduces the equipment-related features of this early specification.

100% Wool Rib-Knit Trim and Low Knit Collar
The collar, cuffs, and waistband are all made from 100% wool rib knit. The knitted structure provides flexibility and stretch at the jacket's neck, wrist, and waist openings, allowing these areas to follow the body while the nylon shell retains its fuller shape.

At the neckline, the low collar follows the neck without the height or bulk of a large mouton collar. Its flexible construction helps accommodate neck and shoulder movement, while the closer fit around the opening helps reduce the entry of wind.

Stepped Rib-Knit Cuffs with Two Rib Textures
The cuffs use a stepped rib-knit construction in which the rib pattern changes partway along the cuff. The section adjoining the nylon sleeve has wider ribs, while the section toward the wrist opening has finer ribs. This creates a visible transition in the knitted texture within each cuff.

The stretch of the wool knit allows the cuffs to sit comfortably around the wrists and helps limit drafts entering through the sleeve openings. Drawing the full nylon sleeves inward at the wrists also helps hold the sleeve ends in position and gives the sleeves their rounded volume above the cuffs.

Rib-Knit Waistband and Rounded MA-1 Silhouette
The bottom of the jacket is finished with a wool rib-knit waistband. Its stretch draws the comparatively roomy body inward at the waist, giving the lower edge a closer fit than the chest and upper body.

The resulting shape comes from the combination of a short body, room through the chest, the volume of the internal insulation, and the narrowing effect of the waistband. These elements work together to create the rounded, waist-length silhouette associated with the MA-1 flight jacket.

Reproduction ALBERT TURNER Contractor Label
A reproduction ALBERT TURNER & CO., INC. contractor label is sewn inside the back neckline. Its wording includes "JACKET, FLYING, MAN'S, INTERMEDIATE," "TYPE MA-1," "SPEC. MIL-J-8279A," "ORDER NO. AF 33(602)-8077," and "ALBERT TURNER & CO., INC."

These markings reproduce the garment designation, type, specification number, order number, and contractor identification found on the military label being recreated. The label records the historical design source represented by this TOYS McCOY reproduction.

White U.S. Air Force Marking Inside the Back Neckline
Below the contractor label, a U.S. Air Force wing-and-star emblem and the words "U.S. AIR FORCE" are printed in white directly onto the lining. This places a second Air Force marking inside the jacket, in addition to the marking on the left sleeve.

The interior print is normally hidden when the jacket is worn. Reproducing it beneath the label carries the early MA-1 detailing into the back-neck lining as well as the exterior shell.

Made in Japan
TOYS McCOY model TMJ2640 is made in Japan as a reproduction of the ALBERT TURNER & CO., INC. MIL-J-8279A configuration. Its gray-toned Sage Green nylon twill, wool pile interlining, and wool rib-knit trim establish the material character and rounded shape of the jacket.

The square-topped wind flap, flapless waist pockets, sleeve utility pocket, oxygen-mask hose tab, communication-cord loops, contractor label, and Air Force markings complete the early specification being recreated. Together, the fabric, insulation, and construction details preserve the practical character of the original design in a flight jacket for everyday casual wear.
