本製品は、仕上げ工程でワンウォッシュ加工が施されています。この工程によって、新品時の生地のハリがほどよく和らぎ、適度なコシを残しながら、着始めからほどよくこなれた風合いに仕上げられています。また、生産段階であらかじめ一度洗いをかけているため、未洗いの製品と比較して、洗濯による大きな縮みは生じにくくなっています。ただし、綿100%の生地であるため、その後の洗濯方法や乾燥条件、個体差によっては、さらに若干の寸法変化が生じる場合があります。着用と洗濯を重ねるにつれて、生地は徐々になじむとともに、インディゴの色合いにも自然な濃淡や褪色が現れ、デニム素材ならではの風合いが深まっていきます。経年変化は、衿の折り返し、前立て、ヨークの縫い目、ポケットの縁、肘、カフス、裾など、繰り返し折れ曲がる部分や摩擦を受けやすい箇所を中心に現れます。着用者の動作や洗濯の頻度によって色落ちの位置や濃淡が変わるため、着用を重ねるにつれて一着ごとに異なる表情へ変化していきます。
裏地を設けないデニム一枚仕立てで、Tシャツやシャツの上からライトアウターとして着用でき、春や秋を中心に長いシーズン活用できます。
フロント開閉は、5つのボタンを配したボタンフロント仕様です。
前立てはデニム生地を折り返した二重構造で形成されており、繰り返し開閉するボタンまわりの強度を高めるとともに、長期の着用による伸びや型崩れを抑えるつくりです。ボタンホールは水平方向に設けられています。前立て見返しの内側には、生地端のセルビッジが見える仕様となっており、通常の着用時には表側から見えない部分にも、ヴィンテージデニムの構造的な特徴が取り入れられています。
襟は台襟を設けず、身頃のネックラインに直接取り付けた折り返し式の構造です。台襟を設けて襟腰を高く立ち上げる構造ではなく、首まわりに自然に沿うデニムジャケットらしい形に仕上げられています。襟全体は比較的平面的に返る形となっており、1950年代のセカンドタイプらしいクラシックな表情を形成しています。
左右の胸には、フラップ付きのパッチポケットを配置しています。ポケットを身頃表面へ縫い付け、その上部に付けられたフラップで覆う構造です。フラップには垂直方向にボタンホールが設けられ、ポケット本体側に付けられたボタンで留める仕様です。ポケット本体は下部中央を尖らせたホームベース状の輪郭で、フラップも下部の角を落とした形状に仕上げられています。実用的な収納機能を備えるとともに、左右に配置された2つの胸ポケットは、1953年型セカンドモデルを特徴づける外観上の重要なディテールとなっています。
フロント上部はヨークで切り替えられ、ヨーク下の左右の前身頃には、それぞれ2列ずつ、合計4列の縦方向のフロントプリーツが設けられています。各プリーツは身頃の生地を折り込み、上部、中間部、下部を横長のボックスステッチで固定する構造です。伸縮性の少ないデニム生地に折り込みによるゆとりを持たせることで、腕を前方へ伸ばしたり持ち上げたりした際にはプリーツ部分がわずかに開き、胸まわりの動きに対応します。通常の姿勢ではプリーツが折り畳まれた状態となるため、身頃の形を大きく崩すことなく、動きやすさを確保しています。こうしたフロントプリーツと、それを固定するボックスステッチは、1953年モデルを特徴づける主要なディテールのひとつです。
背面上部は横方向のバックヨークで切り替えられています。ヨーク下の左右には、生地を折り込んで形成した縦方向のアクションプリーツが設けられており、バックヨーク下からウエストバンドまで続いています。腕を前方へ伸ばした際などには、折り込まれたプリーツ部分が開くことで、背中から肩まわりの動きに必要なゆとりを補います。前身頃のフロントプリーツと組み合わせることで、伸縮性の少ないデニム生地でありながら、上半身の動きに対応しやすい構造となっています。

各ボタンにはアンティーク加工を施した鉄製ボタンを使用しており、表面には「SUGAR CANE TOYO & CO.」の文字が刻印されています。濃色インディゴデニムと落ち着いた金属色の組み合わせが、1950年代のワークウェアを思わせる実用的な外観を生み出しています。鉄製ボタンは、着用や経年によって表面の色艶や風合いが変化し、錆が生じる場合があります。比較的早い段階で錆が現れる場合もありますが、鉄製ボタンならではの経年変化や個性のひとつとしてお楽しみください。
内側の首元には、「SUGAR CANE & Co.」の意匠を施したレザーパッチが縫い付けられ、その上部にはサイズタグが挟み込まれています。レザーパッチは身頃へ直接縫い付けられているため、その取り付けステッチが背面上部の表側に四角く現れます。この表側から見える四角いステッチも、内側のレザーパッチを固定する構造によって生じるディテールです。また、各部の縫い合わせに沿って走るステッチが、ジャケット全体の構造や切り替えを視覚的に際立たせています。

The jacket is made from 14.25 oz. 100% cotton selvedge denim in dark indigo and receives a one-wash finish that softens its initial stiffness while preserving the fabric's substantial body. The jacket has a classic fit with moderate room through the chest and a slightly shorter body length. The body tapers subtly from the underarms toward the hem, but remains relatively straight through the torso. The set-in sleeves follow the shoulder line, and the armholes provide moderate room for movement. [How We Measure the Actual Garment]
Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Lay the garment flat and measure straight across from side to side, approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms.
Length (Body Length): Measured from the base of the back collar, at the seam where the collar joins the body, straight down to the bottom of the hem. The height of the collar is not included in this measurement.
Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): The first sleeve measurement is taken from the center back at the base of the collar seam, across the shoulder, and down to the end of the cuff.

1953 Type II Reproduction and Workwear Background
This model reproduces the construction and detailing of a vintage denim jacket from 1953, commonly referred to as the Type II or second model. Two symmetrically positioned chest pockets and adjustable tabs at the waist are central to its design. Thickness and firmness give the jacket its defined outline; gradual softening with wear allows the material to become more comfortable and responsive to movement.
One-Wash Finish and Subsequent Dimensional Changes
The jacket is washed once during the finishing stage of production. This initial wash eases the stiffness of the new denim and gives it a moderately broken-in feel from the first wear, while preserving enough body to retain the jacket's structure.
Because the initial wash takes place before the garment is sold, substantial first-wash shrinkage is less likely than with an unwashed garment. The finish does not eliminate all potential for later changes in size. The 100% cotton denim may still undergo slight dimensional changes depending on subsequent washing and drying conditions, as well as differences between individual garments.
Natural Indigo Fading and Individual Wear Patterns
With repeated wear and washing, the denim gradually softens and the indigo develops natural variations in tone. Areas exposed to regular bending and friction tend to show these changes more clearly, including the collar fold, front placket, yoke seams, pocket edges, elbows, cuffs, and hem.
The location and intensity of fading depend on the wearer's movements and washing routine. Raised edges, folded sections, and frequently flexed areas therefore develop differently over time, giving each jacket its own pattern of lighter and darker indigo tones.
Unlined Denim Construction
The jacket is constructed without a separate lining, leaving the reverse of the denim exposed on the inside. This keeps the interior free of an additional lining layer and allows the character of the denim itself to determine the garment's body and feel.
It can be worn as a light outer layer over a T-shirt or shirt, particularly in spring and fall. The unlined construction also allows it to be used across changing seasons according to the layers worn underneath.
Five-Button Front Closure
Five buttons run down the center front. Each fastens through a corresponding horizontal buttonhole in the overlapping front edge, providing a full front opening and the straightforward button-front arrangement characteristic of this denim-jacket style.
Double-Layer Front Placket with Visible Interior Selvedge
The front placket is formed by folding the denim back on itself to create a double layer. This gives the front edges additional substance around the buttons and buttonholes, where the fabric is repeatedly handled and pulled during fastening and unfastening.

Symmetrical Flap-Covered Chest Patch Pockets
A patch pocket is sewn onto the outside of each side of the chest, with a separate flap positioned above the opening. Each flap has a vertical buttonhole that fastens over a button attached to the pocket body, covering the top of the pocket when closed.
The pocket bodies have a five-sided, home-plate-like outline with a point at the lower center. The flaps have angled lower corners that complement the pocket shape beneath them. These defined outlines remain visible against the front panels and give the pocket arrangement a distinct geometric character.
The paired pockets provide practical storage while establishing the symmetrical front appearance associated with the 1953 Type II design. Their placement and flap construction are integral to both the utility and the recognizable appearance of the jacket.
Front Yokes and Four Pleats Secured with Box Stitching
Yoke seams divide the upper front from the lower front panels. Below the yokes, each side of the front has two vertical pleats, making four pleats in total. The pleats are formed by folding the body fabric inward and anchoring the folds with horizontally elongated box stitching at the upper, middle, and lower sections.
The folded fabric provides a small reserve of ease in a material with limited stretch. As the wearer reaches forward or raises the arms, the pleats can open slightly between their secured sections to accommodate movement across the chest. In a resting position, the folds lie together and preserve the front's compact outline.
The box stitching controls the folded sections while making their attachment points visible on the face of the jacket. The combination of vertical pleats and horizontal stitched boxes is one of the defining construction details of the 1953 model.
Horizontal Back Yoke and Extended Rear Action Pleats
A horizontal back yoke separates the upper back from the main back panel. Below the yoke, a vertical action pleat is formed on each side by folding the denim, with the folded sections continuing down to the waistband.
When the wearer extends the arms forward, these folds can open to provide additional ease across the back and shoulder area. This movement comes from the reserve fabric held in the pleats, helping the jacket accommodate upper-body motion despite the limited stretch of the woven denim. An adjustment tab is positioned at each back side of the waistband. One end of each tab is sewn to the jacket, while the free end has a buttonhole that can be fastened to either of two buttons.
The outer button serves as a keeper, holding the tab in place while leaving the waistband uncinched. Fastening the tab to the inner button draws in the waistband, allowing the fit around the waist to be tightened.
Two-Panel Set-In Sleeves
Each sleeve is assembled from two denim panels sewn together and is then joined to the corresponding armhole in the body using set-in construction. The armhole seam forms a distinct junction between the body and sleeve, while the seams joining the two sleeve panels define the sleeve's construction along its length.
This arrangement carries the shoulder line naturally into the sleeve and works with the moderate ease in the armhole. The panel joins are part of the sleeve's actual assembly and contribute to the visible construction lines of the jacket.
Single-Button Cuffs and Sleeve Placket Openings
Each sleeve ends in a cuff secured by one button. A slit, or sleeve placket opening, extends upward from the cuff into the sleeve, allowing the lower sleeve to open when the cuff button is undone.
Opening the cuff increases the space available for the hand to pass through. Fastening the button brings the cuff back into its closed shape, providing a defined wrist opening while keeping the jacket straightforward to put on and remove.
Copper-Rivet Reinforcement at the Sleeve Openings
A copper rivet reinforces the upper end of each cuff slit, where the opening stops and the sleeve fabric becomes continuous again. This is a point where stress can concentrate as the cuff is opened and the hand passes through.
The rivet adds metal reinforcement at the end of the opening, supplementing the stitching and helping limit tearing and wear caused by repeated handling. Its placement reflects the use of practical reinforcement details in traditional workwear.
Antique-Finished Iron Buttons with Stamped Lettering
The buttons are made from iron with an antique finish, and their faces are stamped with the wording "SUGAR CANE TOYO & CO." The subdued metal tone sits against the dark indigo denim and complements the utilitarian appearance of 1950s work clothing.
Iron develops changes in surface tone and luster through use and age, and rust may also occur. Rust can appear at a relatively early stage, depending on conditions. These changes are characteristic of iron hardware and form part of the individual aging of the buttons alongside the denim.
Interior Leather Brand Patch and Size Tag
A leather patch bearing the "SUGAR CANE & Co." design is sewn inside the back neck, with the size tag inserted along its upper edge. The patch is stitched directly to the body fabric rather than attached to a separate lining.
Because the stitching passes through the back panel, the outline used to secure the patch appears as a visible rectangle on the outside of the upper back. This four-sided stitch outline results from the attachment of the interior leather patch and is part of the jacket's construction.
Visible Stitching along the Garment's Construction Lines
Stitching follows the joins and attachment edges of the garment's components, making the arrangement of the panels and details visible from the outside. The lines trace the jacket's construction and give visual definition to its yokes, pockets, pleats, and other assembled sections.

Its 14.25 oz. cotton selvedge denim, paired chest pockets, secured front pleats, rear action pleats, adjustable waistband tabs, and rivet-reinforced sleeve openings reproduce the constructional character of the 1953 second-model design.
The jacket retains the practical features of work clothing while expressing the proportions and appearance of a period when denim jackets were becoming everyday casual wear. The dark indigo one-wash finish gives the fabric an initially softened feel, with further changes in texture and color developing through wear and washing.

本製品は、仕上げ工程でワンウォッシュ加工が施されています。この工程によって、新品時の生地のハリがほどよく和らぎ、適度なコシを残しながら、着始めからほどよくこなれた風合いに仕上げられています。また、生産段階であらかじめ一度洗いをかけているため、未洗いの製品と比較して、洗濯による大きな縮みは生じにくくなっています。ただし、綿100%の生地であるため、その後の洗濯方法や乾燥条件、個体差によっては、さらに若干の寸法変化が生じる場合があります。着用と洗濯を重ねるにつれて、生地は徐々になじむとともに、インディゴの色合いにも自然な濃淡や褪色が現れ、デニム素材ならではの風合いが深まっていきます。経年変化は、衿の折り返し、前立て、ヨークの縫い目、ポケットの縁、肘、カフス、裾など、繰り返し折れ曲がる部分や摩擦を受けやすい箇所を中心に現れます。着用者の動作や洗濯の頻度によって色落ちの位置や濃淡が変わるため、着用を重ねるにつれて一着ごとに異なる表情へ変化していきます。
裏地を設けないデニム一枚仕立てで、Tシャツやシャツの上からライトアウターとして着用でき、春や秋を中心に長いシーズン活用できます。
フロント開閉は、5つのボタンを配したボタンフロント仕様です。
前立てはデニム生地を折り返した二重構造で形成されており、繰り返し開閉するボタンまわりの強度を高めるとともに、長期の着用による伸びや型崩れを抑えるつくりです。ボタンホールは水平方向に設けられています。前立て見返しの内側には、生地端のセルビッジが見える仕様となっており、通常の着用時には表側から見えない部分にも、ヴィンテージデニムの構造的な特徴が取り入れられています。
襟は台襟を設けず、身頃のネックラインに直接取り付けた折り返し式の構造です。台襟を設けて襟腰を高く立ち上げる構造ではなく、首まわりに自然に沿うデニムジャケットらしい形に仕上げられています。襟全体は比較的平面的に返る形となっており、1950年代のセカンドタイプらしいクラシックな表情を形成しています。
左右の胸には、フラップ付きのパッチポケットを配置しています。ポケットを身頃表面へ縫い付け、その上部に付けられたフラップで覆う構造です。フラップには垂直方向にボタンホールが設けられ、ポケット本体側に付けられたボタンで留める仕様です。ポケット本体は下部中央を尖らせたホームベース状の輪郭で、フラップも下部の角を落とした形状に仕上げられています。実用的な収納機能を備えるとともに、左右に配置された2つの胸ポケットは、1953年型セカンドモデルを特徴づける外観上の重要なディテールとなっています。
フロント上部はヨークで切り替えられ、ヨーク下の左右の前身頃には、それぞれ2列ずつ、合計4列の縦方向のフロントプリーツが設けられています。各プリーツは身頃の生地を折り込み、上部、中間部、下部を横長のボックスステッチで固定する構造です。伸縮性の少ないデニム生地に折り込みによるゆとりを持たせることで、腕を前方へ伸ばしたり持ち上げたりした際にはプリーツ部分がわずかに開き、胸まわりの動きに対応します。通常の姿勢ではプリーツが折り畳まれた状態となるため、身頃の形を大きく崩すことなく、動きやすさを確保しています。こうしたフロントプリーツと、それを固定するボックスステッチは、1953年モデルを特徴づける主要なディテールのひとつです。

One-Wash Finish and Subsequent Dimensional Changes
The jacket is washed once during the finishing stage of production. This initial wash eases the stiffness of the new denim and gives it a moderately broken-in feel from the first wear, while preserving enough body to retain the jacket's structure.
Because the initial wash takes place before the garment is sold, substantial first-wash shrinkage is less likely than with an unwashed garment. The finish does not eliminate all potential for later changes in size. The 100% cotton denim may still undergo slight dimensional changes depending on subsequent washing and drying conditions, as well as differences between individual garments.
Natural Indigo Fading and Individual Wear Patterns
With repeated wear and washing, the denim gradually softens and the indigo develops natural variations in tone. Areas exposed to regular bending and friction tend to show these changes more clearly, including the collar fold, front placket, yoke seams, pocket edges, elbows, cuffs, and hem.
The location and intensity of fading depend on the wearer's movements and washing routine. Raised edges, folded sections, and frequently flexed areas therefore develop differently over time, giving each jacket its own pattern of lighter and darker indigo tones.
Unlined Denim Construction
The jacket is constructed without a separate lining, leaving the reverse of the denim exposed on the inside. This keeps the interior free of an additional lining layer and allows the character of the denim itself to determine the garment's body and feel.
It can be worn as a light outer layer over a T-shirt or shirt, particularly in spring and fall. The unlined construction also allows it to be used across changing seasons according to the layers worn underneath.

Symmetrical Flap-Covered Chest Patch Pockets
A patch pocket is sewn onto the outside of each side of the chest, with a separate flap positioned above the opening. Each flap has a vertical buttonhole that fastens over a button attached to the pocket body, covering the top of the pocket when closed.
The pocket bodies have a five-sided, home-plate-like outline with a point at the lower center. The flaps have angled lower corners that complement the pocket shape beneath them. These defined outlines remain visible against the front panels and give the pocket arrangement a distinct geometric character.
The paired pockets provide practical storage while establishing the symmetrical front appearance associated with the 1953 Type II design. Their placement and flap construction are integral to both the utility and the recognizable appearance of the jacket.
Front Yokes and Four Pleats Secured with Box Stitching
Yoke seams divide the upper front from the lower front panels. Below the yokes, each side of the front has two vertical pleats, making four pleats in total. The pleats are formed by folding the body fabric inward and anchoring the folds with horizontally elongated box stitching at the upper, middle, and lower sections.
The folded fabric provides a small reserve of ease in a material with limited stretch. As the wearer reaches forward or raises the arms, the pleats can open slightly between their secured sections to accommodate movement across the chest. In a resting position, the folds lie together and preserve the front's compact outline.
The box stitching controls the folded sections while making their attachment points visible on the face of the jacket. The combination of vertical pleats and horizontal stitched boxes is one of the defining construction details of the 1953 model.
Horizontal Back Yoke and Extended Rear Action Pleats
A horizontal back yoke separates the upper back from the main back panel. Below the yoke, a vertical action pleat is formed on each side by folding the denim, with the folded sections continuing down to the waistband.
When the wearer extends the arms forward, these folds can open to provide additional ease across the back and shoulder area. This movement comes from the reserve fabric held in the pleats, helping the jacket accommodate upper-body motion despite the limited stretch of the woven denim. Working together with the front pleats, the back construction retains a practical workwear approach to mobility.
Button-Adjustable Tabs at the Back Sides of the Waistband
An adjustment tab is positioned at each back side of the waistband. One end of each tab is sewn to the jacket, while the free end has a buttonhole that can be fastened to either of two buttons.
The outer button serves as a keeper, holding the tab in place while leaving the waistband uncinched. Fastening the tab to the inner button draws in the waistband, allowing the fit around the waist to be tightened.
Two-Panel Set-In Sleeves
Each sleeve is assembled from two denim panels sewn together and is then joined to the corresponding armhole in the body using set-in construction. The armhole seam forms a distinct junction between the body and sleeve, while the seams joining the two sleeve panels define the sleeve's construction along its length.
This arrangement carries the shoulder line naturally into the sleeve and works with the moderate ease in the armhole. The panel joins are part of the sleeve's actual assembly and contribute to the visible construction lines of the jacket.
Single-Button Cuffs and Sleeve Placket Openings
Each sleeve ends in a cuff secured by one button. A slit, or sleeve placket opening, extends upward from the cuff into the sleeve, allowing the lower sleeve to open when the cuff button is undone.
Opening the cuff increases the space available for the hand to pass through. Fastening the button brings the cuff back into its closed shape, providing a defined wrist opening while keeping the jacket straightforward to put on and remove.
Copper-Rivet Reinforcement at the Sleeve Openings
A copper rivet reinforces the upper end of each cuff slit, where the opening stops and the sleeve fabric becomes continuous again. This is a point where stress can concentrate as the cuff is opened and the hand passes through.
The rivet adds metal reinforcement at the end of the opening, supplementing the stitching and helping limit tearing and wear caused by repeated handling. Its placement reflects the use of practical reinforcement details in traditional workwear.
Antique-Finished Iron Buttons with Stamped Lettering
The buttons are made from iron with an antique finish, and their faces are stamped with the wording "SUGAR CANE TOYO & CO." The subdued metal tone sits against the dark indigo denim and complements the utilitarian appearance of 1950s work clothing.
Iron develops changes in surface tone and luster through use and age, and rust may also occur. Rust can appear at a relatively early stage, depending on conditions. These changes are characteristic of iron hardware and form part of the individual aging of the buttons alongside the denim.
Interior Leather Brand Patch and Size Tag
A leather patch bearing the "SUGAR CANE & Co." design is sewn inside the back neck, with the size tag inserted along its upper edge. The patch is stitched directly to the body fabric rather than attached to a separate lining.
Because the stitching passes through the back panel, the outline used to secure the patch appears as a visible rectangle on the outside of the upper back. This four-sided stitch outline results from the attachment of the interior leather patch and is part of the jacket's construction.
Visible Stitching along the Garment's Construction Lines

Sugar Cane by Toyo Enterprises, Lot No. SC11953, "14.25 oz. Denim Jacket 1953 Model," is made in Japan. Its 14.25 oz. cotton selvedge denim, paired chest pockets, secured front pleats, rear action pleats, adjustable waistband tabs, and rivet-reinforced sleeve openings reproduce the constructional character of the 1953 second-model design.
The jacket retains the practical features of work clothing while expressing the proportions and appearance of a period when denim jackets were becoming everyday casual wear. The dark indigo one-wash finish gives the fabric an initially softened feel, with further changes in texture and color developing through wear and washing.
