本製品は、第二次世界大戦前に米陸軍航空隊で採用され、その後、戦時中にも使用された飛行士用衣料「Vest, Flying, Winter, Type C-2」をベースとした復刻モデルです。C-2は、長袖を備えたセーター型の衣料でありながら、当時の軍用名称では「Vest（ベスト）」に分類され、ウールニット製の袖付き衣料として記載されていました。ウールニットを主体とした比較的身体に沿う構造を持ち、航空用衣料のレイヤリングシステムにおいて、フライトウェアの下へ重ねる追加の保温層として使用されていたとされています。第二次世界大戦中には、A-2レザーフライトジャケットの下にC-2を着用した例も確認されています。

フロントはフルジップ開閉式で、CONMATIC(コンマティック)製ファスナーが使用されています。フロント内側のファスナー取り付け部には、ファスナーテープとは別に杉綾織のテープが前端に沿って重ねられており、伸縮性のあるニット生地に適度なハリを持たせながら、フロント部分を安定させる構造です。
衿、袖口、裾は、本体とは編み組織の異なるリブニットで切り替えられています。それぞれのリブニットは、編地を折り返して二重にした構造で、本体との接合部は2本針ステッチで縫い付けられています。
衿には比較的畝の細い低めのリブニットを使用し、首まわりに沿って収まるように仕上げられています。一方、袖口と裾のウエストバンドには、衿よりも畝が太く、長さを持たせたリブニットを使用しています。袖口はリブの伸縮性によって手首に沿ってフィットし、ウエストバンドは身頃下部を腰まわりへ適度に引き寄せることで、裾まわりをすっきりと収める構造です。
フロントの着用者から見て左身頃下部には、上部を開口したパッチポケットが一つ設けられています。右身頃には対になるポケットを設けない左右非対称の構成で、フラップ、ボタン、スナップなどの留め具を持たない簡潔な仕様です。ポケット口は上端を折り返して二重にし、横方向のステッチで固定することで、開口部に適度な厚みと安定感を持たせています。
後身頃はヨークやプリーツなどを設けないシンプルな一枚構成で、左右の衿ぐりから脇下へ向かってラグランスリーブの接ぎ線が斜めに伸びています。
衿の内側の縫い目には補強テープが縫い付けられており、衿ぐり部分が伸びにくいよう補強されています。その補強テープに重ねるように、ハンガーループがX字状のステッチで固定されています。ハンガーループの下には復刻ネームが縫い付けられており、その取り付けステッチは背中側にも四角いステッチとして表れています。復刻ネームには、「Type C-2」「Spec.No-94-3055-A」「ORDER NO.A.C.18164」「Buzz Rickson Mfg. Co.」およびサイズ表記が記載されています。

This men's Type C-2 full-zip wool sweater is made in Japan by Buzz Rickson's, Toyo Enterprises' military label specializing in reproductions and interpretations of vintage American military clothing. Based on the U.S. Army Air Corps garment designated "Vest, Flying, Winter, Type C-2," the design reflects the use of a sleeved wool-knit garment as an additional insulating layer beneath flight clothing. It combines 100% wool mid-gauge knit in Olive with raglan sleeves, a CONMATIC front zipper, herringbone tape reinforcement along the inside front edges, double-layer rib-knit trim, and a single patch pocket on the lower left front. Its relatively slim silhouette, shorter body length, and extended rib-knit cuffs and waistband keep the overall shape compact, while the unlined construction and natural stretch of the wool knit make it suitable for layering. [How We Measure the Actual Garment]
Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Lay the garment flat and measure straight across from side to side, approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms.
Length (Body Length): Measured from the center back at the seam where the collar joins the body, straight down to the bottom edge of the rib-knit waistband. The collar is not included in this measurement.
Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): Measured from the center back at the neckline seam, across the shoulder area, and down to the end of the cuff.
Shoulder Width: Not measured. Because this sweater uses raglan sleeves without conventional shoulder seams, a standard shoulder-width measurement cannot be taken. Please use the width, length, and center-back sleeve measurements as the primary references when comparing sizes.

Type C-2 Flying Garment Reproduction
The design is based on the "Vest, Flying, Winter, Type C-2," an aviator's garment adopted by the U.S. Army Air Corps before World War II and also used during the war. Although its long sleeves and knitted construction give it the appearance of a sweater, the original military designation classified it as a vest and described it as a sleeved wool-knit garment.
The C-2 is understood to have served as an additional insulating layer within an aviation clothing system. Its comparatively close-fitting wool-knit construction allowed it to be worn beneath flight clothing without creating excessive bulk. Wartime examples include the C-2 worn beneath an A-2 leather flight jacket, illustrating its role as a separate layer that supplemented the warmth of the outer garment.
Fully Opening Front for Adjustable Layering
The front opens from the neckline to the hem, allowing the sweater to be put on and removed without pulling it over the head. The opening can also be adjusted to suit changes in temperature or the surrounding environment.
The full-zip construction works with the relatively compact wool knit to make the sweater useful in different layering arrangements. It can be worn over a T-shirt or shirt as a cardigan, or zipped up beneath a jacket or coat as an additional insulating layer.
100% Wool Mid-Gauge Knit with Natural Surface Variation
The body is made from 100% wool mid-gauge knit. Its relatively even knitted structure shows vertical columns of small stitches across the outer face. Subtle variation in the yarn and surface texture, together with the natural fuzz of the wool fibers, gives the material a slightly uneven, rustic appearance.
When new, the fabric has a dry, slightly coarse hand with a degree of firmness. Its tactile character is distinct from the fluffy softness associated with some wool sweaters. At the same time, the knitted fabric remains supple and flexible, stretching with movement and forming natural folds as it drapes over the body. Surface roughness and fabric flexibility are separate characteristics here: the sweater can feel slightly textured to the touch while still bending and moving readily during wear.
With repeated wear, the knit gradually settles around the wearer, and its surface fuzz and texture can develop further. These changes form part of the evolving character of the wool knit, complementing the restrained appearance of the military-inspired design.
Moderate Thickness and Unlined Construction
The fabric has a balanced thickness between the substantial volume of a chunky low-gauge sweater and the lightness of an exceptionally thin fine-gauge knit. It provides the moderate insulation associated with wool knit while keeping its overall bulk relatively controlled, making it practical as either the main visible sweater layer or an inner layer beneath winter outerwear.
The body and sleeves are unlined, so the wool knit itself forms the main garment structure without a separate lining layer. This straightforward construction preserves the flexibility and drape of the knit and avoids adding the thickness of another fabric across the interior.
Raglan Sleeve Construction
The sleeves join the body along diagonal seams that extend from near the neckline toward the underarms. This arrangement does not establish a conventional shoulder point in the way a set-in sleeve does, allowing the sleeve construction to follow the shoulder area without a fixed seam across its outer edge.
Combined with the natural stretch of the wool knit, the raglan construction accommodates movement around the shoulders and helps the upper body sit neatly when a jacket is worn over the sweater. The diagonal sleeve junctions remain visible as part of the garment's simple construction.
CONMATIC Front Zipper and Herringbone Tape Reinforcement
The full-length front closure uses a CONMATIC zipper. Along the zipper attachment area on the inside front, separate herringbone-woven tape is layered along the garment edges in addition to the zipper's own tapes.
This woven reinforcement gives the stretchable knit additional body at the front opening. By supporting the area where the zipper is attached, it helps stabilize the front edges while the surrounding wool knit retains its flexibility. The herringbone tape is a distinct reinforcement component, separate from the fabric tapes that carry the zipper elements.
Double-Layer Rib-Knit Trim with Twin-Needle Attachment Stitching
The collar, cuffs, and waistband are made from rib knit with a different knitted structure from the main body. Each rib-knit section is folded back on itself to create a double layer, giving these opening edges more thickness than a single layer of the same rib knit.
The doubled rib sections are attached to the adjoining body or sleeve fabric with twin-needle stitching. These stitched junctions connect the flexible rib-knit edges to the main knitted panels and define the transitions between the different knit structures.
Low Rib-Knit Collar
The collar uses a relatively narrow rib pattern and has a low profile that follows the neckline. Its ribs are finer in width than those at the cuffs and waistband, giving the neck opening a more finely textured finish. The folded, double-layer construction provides a defined edge while allowing the collar to sit close to the neck.
Extended Rib-Knit Cuffs and Waistband
The cuffs and waistband use a more pronounced rib pattern with wider ribs than the collar. These sections are also comparatively long, creating extended rib-knit areas at the wrists and around the lower body.
At the sleeve ends, the rib knit's stretch allows the cuffs to conform to the wrists as the sleeves taper downward. At the hem, the waistband draws the lower body gently toward the waist, reducing excess volume around the bottom of the sweater. This relationship between the body and its rib-knit edges contributes to the compact silhouette and makes the sweater easier to accommodate beneath outerwear.
Single Left-Front Patch Pocket with a Folded Opening
A single patch pocket is attached to the outside of the lower front on the wearer's left. The right side has no matching pocket, creating an asymmetrical front arrangement. The pocket opens at the top and has no flap, button, snap, or other closure.
The upper edge is turned back to form a double layer and secured with horizontal stitching. This folded construction adds thickness and support at the opening, giving the pocket mouth a more defined edge while keeping its top readily accessible.
Plain Back Panel with Diagonal Raglan Seams
The back uses a single main panel without a separate yoke or pleats. On either side, the raglan sleeve seams run diagonally from the neckline toward the underarms. This leaves the central back simple and uninterrupted by additional panel divisions, with the sleeve junctions providing the main construction detail across the upper back.
Reinforced Inner Neckline and X-Stitched Hanger Loop
Reinforcing tape is sewn along the seam on the inside of the collar to help limit stretching at the neckline. It supports this junction between the collar and the main knitted garment.
The hanger loop is positioned over the reinforcing tape and secured with X-shaped stitching. The loop attachment therefore overlaps the taped neckline area, with the crossed stitches fixing the loop in place.
Reproduction Label and Visible Back Stitching
A reproduction label is sewn below the hanger loop. Its attachment stitching is also visible on the outside of the upper back as a rectangular stitched outline, making the placement of the interior label apparent from the exterior.
The label carries the wording "Type C-2," "Spec.No-94-3055-A," "ORDER NO.A.C.18164," and "Buzz Rickson Mfg. Co.," together with the tagged size. These markings reproduce the military-style identification format associated with the garment.

生地は、厚手のローゲージセーターのような大きなボリュームを持たず、極端に薄手のハイゲージニットほど軽くもないバランスです。厚みを比較的すっきりと抑えながらも、ウールニットらしい適度な保温性を備えているため、一枚での着用はもちろん、冬場にはジャケットやコートのインナーとしても取り入れやすい厚さです。また、裏地を設けない一枚仕立てで、本体のウールニット自体が衣服の主体となるシンプルな構造です。
袖はラグランスリーブ仕様です。一般的なセットインスリーブのように肩先で袖を切り替えるのではなく、衿ぐり付近から脇下へ向かって斜めに接ぎ線が伸びる構造で、明確な肩先の位置を持ちません。ニット素材の伸縮性と組み合わさることで、肩まわりの動きに追従しやすく、上からジャケットなどを重ねた際にも肩まわりがすっきりと収まりやすい構成です。
フロントはフルジップ開閉式で、CONMATIC(コンマティック)製ファスナーが使用されています。フロント内側のファスナー取り付け部には、ファスナーテープとは別に杉綾織のテープが前端に沿って重ねられており、伸縮性のあるニット生地に適度なハリを持たせながら、フロント部分を安定させる構造です。
衿、袖口、裾は、本体とは編み組織の異なるリブニットで切り替えられています。それぞれのリブニットは、編地を折り返して二重にした構造で、本体との接合部は2本針ステッチで縫い付けられています。
衿には比較的畝の細い低めのリブニットを使用し、首まわりに沿って収まるように仕上げられています。一方、袖口と裾のウエストバンドには、衿よりも畝が太く、長さを持たせたリブニットを使用しています。袖口はリブの伸縮性によって手首に沿ってフィットし、ウエストバンドは身頃下部を腰まわりへ適度に引き寄せることで、裾まわりをすっきりと収める構造です。
フロントの着用者から見て左身頃下部には、上部を開口したパッチポケットが一つ設けられています。右身頃には対になるポケットを設けない左右非対称の構成で、フラップ、ボタン、スナップなどの留め具を持たない簡潔な仕様です。ポケット口は上端を折り返して二重にし、横方向のステッチで固定することで、開口部に適度な厚みと安定感を持たせています。
後身頃はヨークやプリーツなどを設けないシンプルな一枚構成で、左右の衿ぐりから脇下へ向かってラグランスリーブの接ぎ線が斜めに伸びています。
衿の内側の縫い目には補強テープが縫い付けられており、衿ぐり部分が伸びにくいよう補強されています。その補強テープに重ねるように、ハンガーループがX字状のステッチで固定されています。ハンガーループの下には復刻ネームが縫い付けられており、その取り付けステッチは背中側にも四角いステッチとして表れています。復刻ネームには、「Type C-2」「Spec.No-94-3055-A」「ORDER NO.A.C.18164」「Buzz Rickson Mfg. Co.」およびサイズ表記が記載されています。

This men's Type C-2 full-zip wool sweater is made in Japan by Buzz Rickson's, Toyo Enterprises' military label specializing in reproductions and interpretations of vintage American military clothing. Based on the U.S. Army Air Corps garment designated "Vest, Flying, Winter, Type C-2," the design reflects the use of a sleeved wool-knit garment as an additional insulating layer beneath flight clothing. It combines 100% wool mid-gauge knit in Olive with raglan sleeves, a CONMATIC front zipper, herringbone tape reinforcement along the inside front edges, double-layer rib-knit trim, and a single patch pocket on the lower left front. [How We Measure the Actual Garment]
Width (Chest Width / Half Chest): Lay the garment flat and measure straight across from side to side, approximately 3cm (about 1.2 in.) below the underarms.
Length (Body Length): Measured from the center back at the seam where the collar joins the body, straight down to the bottom edge of the rib-knit waistband. The collar is not included in this measurement.
Sleeve (Center-Back Sleeve Length): Measured from the center back at the neckline seam, across the shoulder area, and down to the end of the cuff.
Shoulder Width: Not measured. Because this sweater uses raglan sleeves without conventional shoulder seams, a standard shoulder-width measurement cannot be taken. Please use the width, length, and center-back sleeve measurements as the primary references when comparing sizes.

Type C-2 Flying Garment Reproduction
The design is based on the "Vest, Flying, Winter, Type C-2," an aviator's garment adopted by the U.S. Army Air Corps before World War II and also used during the war. Although its long sleeves and knitted construction give it the appearance of a sweater, the original military designation classified it as a vest and described it as a sleeved wool-knit garment.
The C-2 is understood to have served as an additional insulating layer within an aviation clothing system. Its comparatively close-fitting wool-knit construction allowed it to be worn beneath flight clothing without creating excessive bulk. Wartime examples include the C-2 worn beneath an A-2 leather flight jacket, illustrating its role as a separate layer that supplemented the warmth of the outer garment.
Fully Opening Front for Adjustable Layering
The front opens from the neckline to the hem, allowing the sweater to be put on and removed without pulling it over the head. The opening can also be adjusted to suit changes in temperature or the surrounding environment.
The full-zip construction works with the relatively compact wool knit to make the sweater useful in different layering arrangements. It can be worn over a T-shirt or shirt as a cardigan, or zipped up beneath a jacket or coat as an additional insulating layer.
100% Wool Mid-Gauge Knit with Natural Surface Variation
The body is made from 100% wool mid-gauge knit. Its relatively even knitted structure shows vertical columns of small stitches across the outer face. Subtle variation in the yarn and surface texture, together with the natural fuzz of the wool fibers, gives the material a slightly uneven, rustic appearance.
When new, the fabric has a dry, slightly coarse hand with a degree of firmness. Its tactile character is distinct from the fluffy softness associated with some wool sweaters. At the same time, the knitted fabric remains supple and flexible, stretching with movement and forming natural folds as it drapes over the body. Surface roughness and fabric flexibility are separate characteristics here: the sweater can feel slightly textured to the touch while still bending and moving readily during wear.
With repeated wear, the knit gradually settles around the wearer, and its surface fuzz and texture can develop further. These changes form part of the evolving character of the wool knit, complementing the restrained appearance of the military-inspired design.
Moderate Thickness and Unlined Construction
The fabric has a balanced thickness between the substantial volume of a chunky low-gauge sweater and the lightness of an exceptionally thin fine-gauge knit. It provides the moderate insulation associated with wool knit while keeping its overall bulk relatively controlled, making it practical as either the main visible sweater layer or an inner layer beneath winter outerwear.
The body and sleeves are unlined, so the wool knit itself forms the main garment structure without a separate lining layer. This straightforward construction preserves the flexibility and drape of the knit and avoids adding the thickness of another fabric across the interior.
Raglan Sleeve Construction
The sleeves join the body along diagonal seams that extend from near the neckline toward the underarms. This arrangement does not establish a conventional shoulder point in the way a set-in sleeve does, allowing the sleeve construction to follow the shoulder area without a fixed seam across its outer edge.
Combined with the natural stretch of the wool knit, the raglan construction accommodates movement around the shoulders and helps the upper body sit neatly when a jacket is worn over the sweater. The diagonal sleeve junctions remain visible as part of the garment's simple construction.
CONMATIC Front Zipper and Herringbone Tape Reinforcement
The full-length front closure uses a CONMATIC zipper. Along the zipper attachment area on the inside front, separate herringbone-woven tape is layered along the garment edges in addition to the zipper's own tapes.
This woven reinforcement gives the stretchable knit additional body at the front opening. By supporting the area where the zipper is attached, it helps stabilize the front edges while the surrounding wool knit retains its flexibility. The herringbone tape is a distinct reinforcement component, separate from the fabric tapes that carry the zipper elements.
Double-Layer Rib-Knit Trim with Twin-Needle Attachment Stitching
The collar, cuffs, and waistband are made from rib knit with a different knitted structure from the main body. Each rib-knit section is folded back on itself to create a double layer, giving these opening edges more thickness than a single layer of the same rib knit.
The doubled rib sections are attached to the adjoining body or sleeve fabric with twin-needle stitching. These stitched junctions connect the flexible rib-knit edges to the main knitted panels and define the transitions between the different knit structures.
Low Rib-Knit Collar
The collar uses a relatively narrow rib pattern and has a low profile that follows the neckline. Its ribs are finer in width than those at the cuffs and waistband, giving the neck opening a more finely textured finish. The folded, double-layer construction provides a defined edge while allowing the collar to sit close to the neck.
Extended Rib-Knit Cuffs and Waistband
The cuffs and waistband use a more pronounced rib pattern with wider ribs than the collar. These sections are also comparatively long, creating extended rib-knit areas at the wrists and around the lower body.
At the sleeve ends, the rib knit's stretch allows the cuffs to conform to the wrists as the sleeves taper downward. At the hem, the waistband draws the lower body gently toward the waist, reducing excess volume around the bottom of the sweater. This relationship between the body and its rib-knit edges contributes to the compact silhouette and makes the sweater easier to accommodate beneath outerwear.
Single Left-Front Patch Pocket with a Folded Opening
A single patch pocket is attached to the outside of the lower front on the wearer's left. The right side has no matching pocket, creating an asymmetrical front arrangement. The pocket opens at the top and has no flap, button, snap, or other closure.
The upper edge is turned back to form a double layer and secured with horizontal stitching. This folded construction adds thickness and support at the opening, giving the pocket mouth a more defined edge while keeping its top readily accessible.
Plain Back Panel with Diagonal Raglan Seams
The back uses a single main panel without a separate yoke or pleats. On either side, the raglan sleeve seams run diagonally from the neckline toward the underarms. This leaves the central back simple and uninterrupted by additional panel divisions, with the sleeve junctions providing the main construction detail across the upper back.
Reinforced Inner Neckline and X-Stitched Hanger Loop
Reinforcing tape is sewn along the seam on the inside of the collar to help limit stretching at the neckline. It supports this junction between the collar and the main knitted garment.
The hanger loop is positioned over the reinforcing tape and secured with X-shaped stitching. The loop attachment therefore overlaps the taped neckline area, with the crossed stitches fixing the loop in place.
Reproduction Label and Visible Back Stitching
A reproduction label is sewn below the hanger loop. Its attachment stitching is also visible on the outside of the upper back as a rectangular stitched outline, making the placement of the interior label apparent from the exterior.
The label carries the wording "Type C-2," "Spec.No-94-3055-A," "ORDER NO.A.C.18164," and "Buzz Rickson Mfg. Co.," together with the tagged size. These markings reproduce the military-style identification format associated with the garment.
